Agnes Quisumbing

Agnes Quisumbing is a Senior Research Fellow in the Poverty, Gender, and Inclusion Unit. She co-leads a research program that examines how closing the gap between men’s and women’s ownership and control of assets may lead to better development outcomes.

Shenggen Fan

At the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland, World Food Programme honored Shenggen Fan with a Hunger Hero Award, in recognition of his commitment to and leadership in fighting hunger worldwide. Fellow award recipients included Sam Dryden, Senior Fellow at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and Marc Van Ameringen, Executive Director of the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN).

Phuong Hong Nguyen

Phuong Hong Nguyen received the Early Career Scholar Award from the American Society for Nutrition’s Global Nutrition Council for her abstract, “Understanding the implementation, utilization, and potential impact of a social franchise model to improve infant and young child feeding practices in Viet Nam: A program impact pathway analysis” (P.H. Nguyen, P. Menon, S.C. Keithly, S.S. Kim, N. Hajeebhoy, L.M. Tran, M.T. Ruel, R. Rawat). The award will be presented at the 2014 Annual Session of the American Society for Nutrition in San Diego, held April 25-29, where Phuong will also present her poster.

Kristin Davis

Received the Association for International Agricultural and Extension Education (AIAEE) Outstanding Achievement Award, honoring “a professional who during their career has demonstrated a combination of service, leadership, and scholarly activity”. The award was granted at AIAEE’s annual conference, held this year in Miami, Florida.

Manuel Hernandez

Manuel Hernandez’s co-author, Koos Gardebroek, received the 2014 Wageningen Social Sciences Publication Award for the publication, “Do energy prices stimulate food price volatility? Examining volatility transmission between US oil, ethanol and corn markets”.

Margaret McMillan

Margaret McMillan and co-author William Masters were presented the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association (AAEA) “Publication of Enduring Quality” award, in honor of their 2001 paper, “Climate and scale in economic growth.” The award recognizes a publication produced at least 10 years ago that has had a large and continuing impact.

Ruth won a “Best Outcome Story” award at the CGIAR Research Program on Water, Land and Ecosystems Annual Science Meeting in Entebbe, Uganda, for the project “Experimental Games for Strengthening Collective Action? Learning from Field Experiments in India and Colombia”

Nurul Islam

Nurul Islam is the recipient of the 2013 BDI (Bangladesh Development Initiative) Lifetime Achievement Award. The Bangladesh Development Initiative (BDI) is a non-partisan research and advocacy group based in the United States. The award established in 2012 is designed to “honor outstanding individuals who, through their scholarly and/or policy and civic engagements, have contributed significantly to understanding the challenges, and pursuing the ideals that would lead to the development of Bangladesh and improving the quality of life for its citizens.” The award will be formally presented at BDI’s International Conference organized with the Institute for South Asia Studies on the UC Berkeley campus, tentatively scheduled for November 2015.
