Samuel Benin

Samuel Benin is the Acting Director for Africa in the Development Strategies and Governance Unit. He conducts research on national strategies and public investment for accelerating food systems transformation in Africa and provides analytical support to the African Union’s CAADP Biennial Review.

The zombie statistic about women’s share of income and property (Washington Post)

The Washington Post turned to IFPRI for answers about popularly-quoted statistics on women’s contributions to global food production and land ownership. “This is a zombie fact, and it never dies,” IFPRI Senior Research Fellow Agnes Quisumbing told the Post’s Fact Checker. Though the statistic received an unenviable score of four Pinnocchios—meaning the statistic is more than significantly incorrect—the zombie fact lives on in social media.
