Research Fellow Devesh Roy from IFPRI’s South Asia Office authored an op-ed in India’s Hindustan Times. The article looks at two of India’s food subsidy programs: Public distribution system and state-run canteens, and questions to what extent the government should be providing subsidies. Roy argues that once subsidies are implemented, they can be difficult to retract.
