July 17, 2019

NPR reported a projected fruit and vegetable shortages compared to recommended consumption at global and national levels based on a study by IFPRI Senior Scientist Timothy Sulser and Senior Research Analysts Nicola Cenacchi and Shahnila Dunston. The article described the study’s key takeaways–including calls for increasing investments in fruit and vegetable production; increased efforts to educate people about healthy diets; and new techniques to reduce food waste–and placed the study within the context of a new World Resources Institute report on reforming the food system to improve planetary health.
