Liangzhi You

Liangzhi You is a Senior Research Fellow and theme leader in the Foresight and Policy Modeling Unit, based in Washington, DC. His research focuses on climate resilience, spatial data and analytics, agroecosystems, and agricultural science policy. Gridded crop production data of the world (SPAM) and the agricultural technology evaluation model (DREAM) are among his research contributions.

Silent food crisis is striking (Telangana)

Telangana (India) published an article on the food crisis that grew out of the COVID-19 health crisis. The levels of malnutrition and Severe Acute Malnourishment (SAM) are bound to go up significantly. Those who will bear the brunt of this debacle the most are children and expectant mothers, who must have healthy and nutritious food now but are denied even basic calories. Senior Research Fellow Purnima Menon said, “The impact of the Dutch Food crisis post World War II is a significant case study that shows that pregnant mothers who went without food then gave birth to children who suffered lifelong disabilities. This is because of the metabolic imprint in the fetus that does not get adequate food. Expectant mothers should never go hungry.”
