Inadequate data likely to affect impact of Covid-19 on agricultural trade – Senior Research Fellow (GBC Ghana Online)

October 07, 2020

GBC Ghana Online published an article on the African Agriculture Trade Monitor, referencing the report and quoting Senior Research Fellow Antoine Bouet who said, the poor and incomplete nature of African trade data is likely to affect the collection and analysis of information to show the impact of Covid-19 on agricultural trade on the continent. He added that official databases of African trade are known to be imprecise or even wrong. “There is a broad consensus among economists that, import declarations more accurately indicate trade flows than exports declarations.”
