Kalyani Raghunathan

Kalyani Raghunathan is Research Fellow in the Poverty, Gender, and Inclusion Unit, based in New Delhi, India. Her research lies at the intersection of agriculture, gender, social protection, and public health and nutrition, with a specific focus on South Asia and Africa.

Business Insider (Spain) published an article on the German-based market that has healthy options for consumers. The article quotes a study by IFPRI titled, The relative caloric prices of healthy and unhealthy foods differ systematically across income levels and continents that concluded that the high price of healthy foods has been proven to be a factor that determines the diet and health of populations. The higher the purchasing power, the better the nutritional indices. And the reverse: families at risk of poverty throw away more cheap food even if it is not nutritionally healthy. Is it possible to eat well and cheaply?
