Chile is one of the most overstudied countries by economists is due to the fact that it is ranked as one (Yahoo Finance)

October 20, 2021

Yahoo Finance published an article about Chile and why the country is the most frequently mentioned in the Journal of Economic Development (JDE), one of the top journals on the topic, adjusted for population. Much bigger economies, such as India and Brazil, are considerably less popular, meanwhile. Research Fellow Jessica Leight, a development economist at IFPRI conducted an informal review. She examined papers published in the top five economic journals published and in JDE between October 2019 and October 2021 and adjusted the numbers based on the population of the countries studied. Leight, who shared her findings on Twitter, identified several reasons why some countries appear to be economists’ darlings while others barely appear in economic journals. Among them, a country’s pace of growth is remarkable, and it piqued interest because it provided lessons for policymakers. Republished in QuartzFlipboard (USA), List23, Bitin (France).
