Ukraine crisis raises short- and long-term questions over food supply chains (Just Food)

Just Food published an article stating that Russia’s war on Ukraine is hitting the food supply chain and looks set to impact consumer behavior far from the conflict zone – and shape manufacturers’ supply chain strategies over the longer term. “Over the past 30 years, the Black Sea region has emerged as an important global supplier of grains and oilseeds.” Senior research fellows Joseph Glauber and David Laborde are the authors of a blog post where they state, “Russia and Ukraine exports account for about 12 percent of total calories traded in the world. North Africa and the Middle East import over 50 percent of their cereal needs and a large share of wheat and barley from Ukraine and Russia. Ukraine is an important supplier of maize for the European Union and China, as well as several north African markets including Egypt and Libya.”
