Joseph Glauber on China’s agriculture (CGTN America)

September 02, 2022

CGTN (China) produced a video on YouTube where reporter Gerald Tan talks to senior research fellow Joseph Glauber about China’s agriculture. Glauber said, “China is the largest importer of agricultural products. Not only did imports from the US go up, but also Brazil, European Union, and other suppliers. China has been a big engine for agricultural growth.” Are U.S. farmers still dependent on China? Glauber said, “One out of every four hectares planted in the U.S. goes to China. Also, corn is a big market, and we’ve seen a dramatic rise. Countries like Ukraine and Brazil will benefit from the amount of corn China is importing.” He also said, “Ukraine has provided corn to China and with those exports being diminished, China has had to find other sources of corn and other food grains. The U.S. has benefited.”
