Britons warned food prices to rise again after Russia cancels UN-brokered grain deal (The Telegraph)

October 29, 2022

In a recent story, The Telegraph discussed what comes next after Vladimir Putin collapsed the Black Sea Grain Initiative following his accusation that the British Royal Navy helped Ukraine carry out drone attacks on its Black Sea Fleet. Although British ministers are set to reassure the public that Britain’s food supply is secure, Ukraine is one of the largest exporters of wheat and grain in the world.

David Laborde, a senior research fellow at the International Food Policy Research Institute, explained that the price of wheat could rise by 10 percent when the markets open on Monday [October 31] and that the effects of the decision will be felt across the world for months. Laborde added, “Food is already expensive and this is going to make it more expensive.”

David Laborde’s comments to The Telegraph are also cited in Wales Online, the US Sun, and The Mirror (UK).
