Samuel Benin

Samuel Benin is the Acting Director for Africa in the Development Strategies and Governance Unit. He conducts research on national strategies and public investment for accelerating food systems transformation in Africa and provides analytical support to the African Union’s CAADP Biennial Review.

How do we make farming better for planet? Ask women (Mirage)

Mirage writes in a piece on agriculture production that a study, discovered one seemingly surefire way of improving conservation and production–include more women in decisionmaking. Their involvement boosted cooperation between farmers on environmental issues and increased output. The results are published in the journal, Communications Earth & Environment.  

Wei Zhang, a senior research fellow at IFPRI and coauthor on the study has found protecting women’s rights to own land, improving their access to credit and financial services, and giving them more decision-making power can all help.
