IFPRI is co-organizing a session at the 24th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP24), which takes place December 3rd-14th, 2018 at the International Conference Centre in Poland.

The annual COP sessions are the key events in the international climate negotiation process, bringing together representatives of all Parties to the Convention (196 countries and the EU) to decide on further actions to protect the climate and on the functioning of the Convention itself. This year’s session will be attended by nearly 40,000 delegates. The COP session is accompanied by a number of scientific, social and commercial events, which provide a forum for the presentation and exchange of ideas.

The plan for the COP24 summit is to adopt a full package implementing the Paris Agreement. The Agreement is the first international agreement in history, which compels all countries in the world to take action on climate protection. The implementation package will allow for the implementation of the Agreement in Practice. It will thus set global climate and energy policy for the coming years.
