The Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) and IFPRI warmly invite you to attend the China Agricultural Sector Development Report 2024 (CASDR) and IFPRI 2024 Global Food Policy Report (GFPR) hybrid launch event on June 7, 2024, in Beijing, China. The event will feature keynote speakers as well as presentations on the overview of the GFPR’s and CASDR’s findings.

2023 is the year for comprehensively implementing the spirit of the 20th Party Congress. It marks the beginning of accelerating the construction of an agricultural powerhouse and is also a year for economic recovery and development after three years of COVID-19 prevention and control transition. In the face of a complex and challenging international environment and the arduous task of domestic reform, development and stability, China has adhered to the general principle of seeking progress while maintaining stability, focused on expanding domestic demand and improving the economic structure. China’s economic performance has continued to recover and has achieved new milestones in high-quality development. However, faced with the hard constraints of resources and the environment and the rigid growth of food demand, China’s tight balance between the supply and demand of grain and important agricultural products will still exist for a long time. It is difficult for the agricultural production structure to meet the growing needs of residents for diversified, nutritious and healthy food, and there are still some unreasonable problems in the overall dietary structure of residents, with the pressure on resources and environment increasing. Therefore, it is necessary to speed up the development of new quality productivity, promote the transformation of the agri-food system, and lay a solid foundation for the stable and safe supply of grain and important agricultural products. The launch event will discuss the new situation and new issues facing the development of China’s agricultural industry and plans to promote the matching of China’s food supply and demand in the medium and long term.

The China Agricultural Sector Development Report 2024 (CASDR) is one of the series of reports by CAAS and the Chinese Institute of Agricultural Development Strategies. Based on statistical data and the China Agricultural Sector Model (CASM), the CASDR 2024 focuses on China’s food supply and demand matching plan for 2035 and 2050, analyzes the competitiveness of China’s agricultural processing industry from the perspective of international trade, simulates and predicts the structure of China’s food demand in 2035 and 2050, and deeply discusses the corresponding agricultural structure transformation path and the adjustment of feed grain import pattern and other hot issues. The report also provides projections of 20 agricultural sub-sectors, including cereals, oilseeds, livestock products, and aquatic products.

The topic of the 2024 Global Food Policy Report is Food Systems for Healthy Diets and Nutrition.  This flagship report delves into the state of nutrition and healthy diets, emphasizing the role of food system policies in sustainably improving diet quality and nutrition. It covers a wide array of topics, from supply- and demand-side approaches to governance and sustainability, with a particular focus on the most vulnerable populations in low- and middle-income countries.
