Beyond the big promises, ‘PM POSHAN’ is old school meal on new plate (The Wire)

October 03, 2021

The Wire (India) reported that the government has approved the ‘National Scheme for PM Poshan’ in schools. From the details of the scheme and financial outlays, it seems that this is just a repackaging of the school mid-day meal program with a new name and some window dressing. The article states the importance of the mid-day meal program and references a study by IFPRI that suggests that the mid-day meal scheme in India has intergenerational effects on child nutrition through improving the mother’s health and education levels.
