Conflict In Ukraine is on the verge of creating a global food crisis (MSNBC – The Cross Connection)

April 02, 2022

MSNBC (The Cross Connection) interviewed senior research fellow Joseph Glauber who said that 60 percent of wheat crops are planted in the fall and harvested in the spring, but indications are saying that there won’t be that much more planted. We’ll see wheat planted in Australia and Argentina, but that will take a while. How does it impact Americans? Food prices can lead to social unrest. How does it impact kitchen tables? “Food inflation is at the highest level since 1981. Commodity prices are a small part of that, as well as energy and labor, but if you look at a loaf of bread, only 5 percent is the cost of wheat. Wheat prices are up double, flour is up 12 percent. Food will be here, but it will be more costly.”
