Akhter Ahmed

Akhter Ahmed is a Senior Research Fellow in the IFPRI’s Poverty, Gender, and Inclusion Unit and Country Representative for IFPRI Bangladesh. He has worked on strategies for agricultural and rural development, social protection, and women’s empowerment to reduce poverty, food insecurity, and undernutrition in developing countries including Bangladesh, China, Egypt, India, Malawi, the Philippines, and Turkey.

Covid-19: Functioning food markets key to corona welfare package (Yahoo India)

Yahoo India published an op-ed by Mamata Pradhan and Senior Research Fellow Devesh Roy on the next economic steps India should take to recover from the COVID-19 health crisis. Though many regions are creating rationing packages and other safety nets, the authors suggest that only when the markets are running, the safety nets would be useful.
