Food prices rose in June. here are the items with the biggest increases. (Barron’s)

July 13, 2022

Barron’s published an article about how inflation has reached its highest level since 1981, and some of the biggest increases are coming at the supermarket. The food at home portion of the index has surged 12.2 percent over the last 12 months—its largest increase since April 1979. “That’s a huge increase,” said Joseph Glauber, a senior research fellow. “It still seems to be increasing. Fruits and vegetables are up about 8 percent, dairy products are up 13 and a half percent, meat and poultry, and fish are up about 12 percent. We’ve had really strong food inflation across the board over the last six months or so.”
