Samuel Benin

Samuel Benin is the Acting Director for Africa in the Development Strategies and Governance Unit. He conducts research on national strategies and public investment for accelerating food systems transformation in Africa and provides analytical support to the African Union’s CAADP Biennial Review.

How agro-forestry restores soil fertility (New Vision)

New Vision (Uganda) magazine published an article (see attached file) on agroforestry, quoting Senior Research Fellow Ephraim Nkonya on how agroforestry fixes the depletion of nitrogen, hence improving soil fertility and productivity. He explains that continuous cultivation, which has been driven by the increasing population, has exhausted natural fertility and external inputs are required to ensure sustainable production.
