Kalyani Raghunathan is Research Fellow in the Poverty, Gender, and Inclusion Unit, based in New Delhi, India. Her research lies at the intersection of agriculture, gender, social protection, and public health and nutrition, with a specific focus on South Asia and Africa.

IFPRI: Strengthening food resilience in response to crises (Beijing News)

“Food resilience will be a key factor in overcoming various crises,” writes Beijing News (China) in a piece on the launch of the 2023 Global Food Policy Report.  

Johan Swinnen, director general of the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) said that crises, conflicts, and volatility will no longer be the exception but may become the new normal. “We should be better able to anticipate and prepare, implement effective and accountable governance, and build resilience to future crises.” 

In the increasingly prominent global food crisis, food resilience will be a key factor in overcoming various crises. Better food crisis responses must be based on good governance, effective institutions, and appropriate incentives, said Katrina Kosec, a senior research fellow at IFPRI.
