Kate Ambler

Kate Amber is a Senior Research Fellow in the Markets, Trade, and Institutions Unit. Kate’s research broadly focuses on interventions that can increase incomes for smallholders and other microenterprises in agrifood value chains, with a specific focus on the inclusion of women. This includes work on programming in fragile settings, innovations in agricultural finance, and regulatory solutions for food safety.

A study by Deputy Division Director and Senior Research Fellow Xinshen Diao, Visiting Senior Research Fellow Eugenio Diaz-Bonilla, and Senior Research Fellow Sherman Robinson, “How Much Does It Hurt?,” was mentioned in an opinion piece for Forbes. The op-ed examines how, with a few policy changes, the United States could improve lives in Latin America. According to the piece, the study “found that agricultural policies, such as tariffs and subsidies, on behalf of wealthy countries are costing developing nations about $24 billion a year in lost income.”
