Akhter Ahmed

Akhter Ahmed is a Senior Research Fellow in the IFPRI’s Poverty, Gender, and Inclusion Unit and Country Representative for IFPRI Bangladesh. He has worked on strategies for agricultural and rural development, social protection, and women’s empowerment to reduce poverty, food insecurity, and undernutrition in developing countries including Bangladesh, China, Egypt, India, Malawi, the Philippines, and Turkey.

Pre-Summit on food systems: Participation of over 100 countries (United Nations)

UN RIC published an article on the UNFSS Pre-Summit where more than 100 countries joined the conversation (an historic three-days in Rome) with an outcome of bold ideas and global actions ahead of the UNFSS Summit in September. The article highlights included a quote from Head, Africa Region, Jemimah Njuki who said, “It is very important that we give women voices and leadership in food systems because we know they’ve been producing a lot of the food that we eat but their voices have not been heard.”
