Akhter Ahmed

Akhter Ahmed is a Senior Research Fellow in the IFPRI’s Poverty, Gender, and Inclusion Unit and Country Representative for IFPRI Bangladesh. He has worked on strategies for agricultural and rural development, social protection, and women’s empowerment to reduce poverty, food insecurity, and undernutrition in developing countries including Bangladesh, China, Egypt, India, Malawi, the Philippines, and Turkey.

President Biden announces key appointments to boards and commissions (White House)

January 14, 2022


The White House, from its briefing room, announced new appointments including Kathy Spahn as a member of the Board for International Food and Agricultural Development. Spahn is President and CEO of Helen Keller Intl, a global health organization that partners with communities to overcome longstanding cycles of poverty. She also serves on IFPRI’s Leadership Council Compact of 2025 and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
