Samuel Benin

Samuel Benin is the Acting Director for Africa in the Development Strategies and Governance Unit. He conducts research on national strategies and public investment for accelerating food systems transformation in Africa and provides analytical support to the African Union’s CAADP Biennial Review.

Proper policy needed for ensuring fair paddy price

Akhter Ahmed, a senior research fellow in the Poverty, Nutrition and Health Division (Bangladesh office) was interviewed by The Daily Sun (an English daily) on ways to create a balance between what farmers are paid for producing rice, and providing affordable prices for consumers to purchase rice. “There are many options that the government can take or consider to mitigate the situation,” Ahmed stated. The article mentioned the USAID-funded Bangladesh Policy Research and Strategy Support Program (PRSSP), the largest project the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) has ever had in Bangladesh.
