Rural Communities Trapped in Poverty: Survey (Post-Courier)

June 13, 2019

Papua New Guinea’s Post-Courier reported on the findings of a recent IFPRI survey on food consumption in Middle Ramu, Buin, Maprik and Nuku, presented at Port Moresby on Wednesday. The article quoted Emily Schmidt, who highlighted that poor households were not getting enough food, and there is no significant difference in diet makeup across income levels. The article also focused on Schmidt’s call for increased access to primary education given that education can directly improve rural families’ predicaments. The same survey was also mentioned in a Post-Courier article on the lack of rural data collection in PNG.
