First Post published an article stating that the Global Report on Food Crises, 2022 by World Food Programme revealed that levels of hunger all across the world remain alarmingly high. The year 2021 broke all previous records since close to 193 million people across 53 countries were acutely food insecure. However, more and more countries are slapping export bans on their crops so they can feed their own populations. According to IFPRI, blockage of exports could impact as much as 17 percent of globally traded calories in 2022 (Read IFPRI blog post, From bad to worse: How Russia-Ukraine war-related export restrictions exacerbate global food insecurity).
