Virtual Side Event “Reducing the Impact of GHGs Through Managing Food Loss and Waste (FLW): Insights from Bangladesh, Guatemala, Malawi, and Nepal” | October 22, 2024 | 8:30am – 10:00am CDT / 9:30 – 11:00am EDT
As the world’s population continues to grow, a major challenge is not just to strengthen food production and access, but to reduce food loss and waste (FLW). FLW has significant environmental impacts, including greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in both the production of food that is later lost and in waste management. The proposed side event will bring together policy makers, practitioners, and researchers to identify the key drivers of food loss and waste management that help reduce emissions and promote environmental co-benefits for biodiversity. Drawing insights from Bangladesh, Guatemala, Malawi, and Nepal, it will promote South-South learning on the challenges and opportunities to strengthen FLW related policy, institutional and technological innovations.
