Samuel Benin

Samuel Benin is the Acting Director for Africa in the Development Strategies and Governance Unit. He conducts research on national strategies and public investment for accelerating food systems transformation in Africa and provides analytical support to the African Union’s CAADP Biennial Review.

10-year plan for government procurement of wheat and rice (Roznamasahara)

Roznamasahara (India) published an article on the enactment of the three agricultural laws by the government, some sections of the media, right or wrong, have joined hands with Punjab and Haryana to prove that they are villains. This propaganda has made a significant number of people think that the farmers of Punjab have been exploiting the purchasing system at MSP (Minimum Support Price). In a recent IFPRI study, A comparison of the Indian diet with the EAT-Lancet reference diet, the organization found that the poorest families in society get less than the calories they need from protein. India’s diet is poor as compared to the ideal diet. Therefore, instead of producing carbohydrate-rich wheat and rice, there is a need to provide incentives and incentives to farmers to grow protein-rich pulses.
