They define the motivations that drive farmers to adopt sustainable practices (Grupo La Provincia.com)

March 07, 2021

Grupo La Provincia.com published an article regarding a recent study, Achieving sustainable agricultural practices: From incentives to adoption and outcomes. The positive results on their farmland and the environment are what motivate farmers, in the long term, to adopt sustainable practices, which are important for the health of the food systems of Latin America and the Caribbean. The study was carried out by several international development organizations including IFPRI. Although the short-term economic benefits are the main incentive to adopt good practices, the situation changes when the motivations of producers are evaluated in longer times, in which they tend to change their practices if they notice favorable consequences in their farms or in the environment. ambient. To promote the growth of the region’s agri-food systems, sustainable and comprehensive models are required, adjusted to local contexts, that promote integrated water and soil management to increase resilience, productivity, and profitability.
