Samuel Benin

Samuel Benin is the Acting Director for Africa in the Development Strategies and Governance Unit. He conducts research on national strategies and public investment for accelerating food systems transformation in Africa and provides analytical support to the African Union’s CAADP Biennial Review.

Harriet Mawia

Bio

Harriet Mawia is a Research Officer in the Development Strategies and Governance Unit. She conducts research on socioeconomics and gender policy issues using applied econometric analysis. Her focus is on gender equality and the empowerment of women in agriculture for economic development, food security, and improved livelihoods in Africa. Prior to joining IFPRI, Harriet was a consultant with the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) and a Research Assistant at the World Agroforestry Center. She holds a master’s degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Pretoria and the University of Nairobi.
