Samuel Benin

Samuel Benin is the Acting Director for Africa in the Development Strategies and Governance Unit. He conducts research on national strategies and public investment for accelerating food systems transformation in Africa and provides analytical support to the African Union’s CAADP Biennial Review.

Augustine is a Research Analyst in the Development Strategies and Governance Unit. Prior to joining IFPRI, Augustine was a Research Associate at the Centre for the Study of the Economies of Africa (CSEA) where he worked closely with government, local, national, and regional partners on evidence-based research for evidence-informed policymaking. He also worked as a teaching assistant at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria where he oversaw undergraduate students’ field studies and taught microeconomics.

His research focuses on trade, migration, multidimensional poverty, income diversification, rural livelihoods, and food systems. He holds MSc degree in Agricultural and Applied Economics from Sokoine University of Agriculture, Tanzania, and the University of Pretoria, South Africa.
