Samuel Benin

Samuel Benin is the Acting Director for Africa in the Development Strategies and Governance Unit. He conducts research on national strategies and public investment for accelerating food systems transformation in Africa and provides analytical support to the African Union’s CAADP Biennial Review.

Bio

Khalid Siddig is a Senior Research Fellow in the Development Strategies and Governance Unit and Program Leader for the Sudan Strategy Support Program, which focus on research, capacity building, and outreach activities. Khalid is an agricultural economist whose research assesses the impact of resource use in the production of goods and services in developing countries on economic growth, environment, and the distribution of income across different population groups. He is experienced in using economywide models (single and multicounty), with knowledge of their interface with water, energy, climate, and river basin models.

Before joining IFPRI, Khalid held senior research and teaching positions at the University of Hohenheim, Humboldt University of Berlin, and the University of Khartoum. He also held the Chair of Rural Development Theory and Policy of the University of Hohenheim. He holds a habilitation degree from the University of Hohenheim, and a PhD from the University of Giessen, Germany, in agricultural economics as well as MSc degrees in agricultural economics and computer science, respectively from the University of Khartoum and Al Neelain University in Sudan.
